In September, we had in Mikkeli a delegation of 10 people from Estonia, including representatives from both scientific communities and companies.

During the 2-day event, we heard interesting presentations from both Estonian and Finnish companies, presentations on implemented cross-border cooperation projects, and received up-to-date information on the Interreg Central Baltic programme, to which South Savo has been added as a new region.

We also visited the EcoSairila area and the new wastewater treatment plant, which our Estonian guests were particularly impressed by.

We reciprocally visited Tallinn and participated in the EcoBalt conference on 9-11 October 2023 and networked with Estonian and other environmental actors from the Baltic and neighbouring regions. The event included a presentation by MikseiMikkeli on the results of the BBC1 project, EcoSairila, the Blue Economy Mikkeli Centre of Excellence and the BEM cluster promoting awareness of Mikkeli and the region’s companies and expertise. In addition, new international project openings were discussed and promoted for implementation under the Interreg Central Baltic programme.

After the war started in Ukraine Estonia is becoming an increasingly important partner for us, opening up many new opportunities in both the scientific and business cooperation sectors. The atmosphere of cooperation is palpably enthusiastic and positively charged.

In cooperation with our Estonian partners, we have compiled a handbook of the results of the four CBC projects.
