The BEM brings water experts together
BEM brings together companies in the water sector, enabling networking and international collaboration.
BEM brings together companies, research institutes, and financiers to expand businesses in the water sector. The BEM networks makes use of the MBR water treatment plant, which was built in EcoSairila and uses the very latest technology, a biogas plant, and facilities for testing and piloting in a genuine water plant environment. LUT University and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) actively participate in the BEM network, and their expertise and research and development infrastructure are available for the BEM member companies to use. BEM is a collaboration network designed to strengthen collaboration between its members and offer a range of services. The BEM services enable products to be piloted and fine-tuned in a genuine environment. BEM utilises international networks to help its members internationalise.

National and international collaboration
Blue Economy Mikkeli works with national ecosystems and clusters specialising in the circular economy and water expertise.
Blue Economy Mikkeli is part of a network of Finnish eco-industrial parks, and it works closely with clusters in the water sector and entities such as the Kuopio Water Cluster, Water Cluster Finland, and the Finnish Water Forum.
Blue Economy Mikkeli is active in international networks. The most significant of these – the European Commission’s smart specialisation platform Water Smart Territories – couples Blue Economy Mikkeli with a European network of water expertise. The network includes more than 20 areas specialising in water expertise, including the associated RDI activities and companies, in various parts of Europe. The entities in the network are organised into cluster networks like Blue Economy Mikkeli. The Blue Economy Mikkeli and the Water Smart Territories network provide companies with access to the services and expertise of European Cluster Collaboration Platform, ECCP.
Blue Economy Mikkeli and Water Smart Territories enable companies to find new partners, access new markets, participate in the European Commission’s development programmes, and access structural and investment funding.
