A new regional environmental management model is being introduced in the EcoSairila industrial park in Mikkeli, supported by the EcoS information platform. The aim is to ensure environmentally safe operations in the area and offer companies in the area a ready-to-use operating environment for efficiently monitoring environmental impacts in real time.
A new regional environmental management model is being introduced in the EcoSairila industrial park in Mikkeli, supported by the EcoS information platform. The aim is to ensure environmentally safe operations in the area and offer companies in the area a ready-to-use operating environment for efficiently monitoring environmental impacts in real time.
In addition to its geographical location, the EcoSairila centre for the circular economy, Mikkeli’s new wastewater treatment plant, and the BEM centre of excellent are connected by a next-generation environmental information ecosystem platform known as EcoS. In the coming years, the EcoS platform will be expanded to become a platform for environmental information to be shared by the companies and entities in EcoSairila, their stakeholders, and the BEM Centre of Excellence. In addition, the EcoS environmental information platform will be connected to several external systems belonging to the authorities and partners, as well as national environmental information ecosystem platforms. This will transform the EcoS platform into a uniquely wide-ranging environmental information system entity that serves the area’s businesses, environmental service providers, stakeholders of the area or companies, and nearby residents and landowners. Software companies developing new services, the BEM Centre of Excellence, and the other RDI operators in the area have been identified as separate user groups.
The core RDI functions of the BEM Centre of Excellence are based on seamless measurement, data transfer and processing, and efficient connections to other national resources in the sector. As such, all of the system’s stakeholders can make use of the data resources on the EcoS platform. The unique EcoS operating model enables joint activities and many other characteristics that make use of water research and business.
The functions enabled by the EcoS environmental information platform will include:
Collaboration and information exchange between the various organisations on the EcoS platform is based on utilising the organisations’ own databases and data resources via interfaces and not on a single, rigid data platform. This operating model makes it possible to add new IoT devices, information and logistics systems to the EcoS ecosystem platform quickly and cost-efficiently, without any additional programming.
